Lilt

A sustainable lounge chair.

Sustainability and comfort need not be at odds. There are few options on the market today when it comes to sustainable lounge chairs that offer comparable softness and support without any heavy bolstering or foam padding. Lilt is a lounge chair that embodies this balance — with every element designed for circularity, lasting use, and comfort.

Made without polyurethane

By using recycled cotton ropes for the seating surface, Lilt eliminates the need for any PU (polyurethane) cushioning, offering flexible support through tension.

Polyurethane foam, widely used in lounge furniture, is environmentally damaging and difficult to recycle.

Sculpted by choreography

Lounge chairs are more than just seating; they become cherished parts of people’s daily routine. The form of the Lilt Lounge takes cues from the choreographed movements of dancers, aiming to bring the art and beauty of dance into everyday life and evoke a sense of lightness.

By staying true to its material, the chair achieves a sense of weightlessness through both visual lightness and physical comfort.

Designed to be a quiet yet long-lasting centerpiece, Lilt is a chair that enhances the experience of the living space around it.

The loom like weave pattern alludes to the flowing fabrics often worn by dancers.

The central beam and denser weave at the midpoint provides additional back support, echoing traditional East Asian furniture-making techniques.

Scale Prototype

Constructed with wood, a 1/4 scale model was made to validate the feasibility of the woven seating surface.

Taking inspiration from the “floating” feel of the LC4 Chaise Lounge by Le Corbusier, the physical prototype experimented with ergonomics by increasing the back angle, promoting a more supine alignment for a more relaxed seating position.
